Welcome to the official site of
the Bob Shoo Bops, a theatrical oldies revue formed in 1972 at Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ. The group
initially consisted of male and female students from Rider College, which changed its name to Rider University.
Their first performance was a "Fifties Night" in April 1972 at Rider College's Bijou Theater before a hundred
students. It was so well received, they moved the show over to the Fine Arts Building before a few hundred
people. Who knew that it would mushroom to thousands of people along the East Coast for years to come.
Where are they now? For more information contact DJFred@FredCampbellEntertainment.com. In May 1972, the
Bob Shoo Bops trimmed down to 7 singers, added five musicians, and as they say, the rest is history. The members in 1972 were
baritone Bob Bradbury, general director, tenor Gerry Treacy, musical director, Steve ‘Earl Scooter’ Scheier, lead
tenor, formerly from ‘Alexander Rabbit’, second tenor Fred Campbell from Princeton, ‘Bass Man’ Mark
Mulrine, from Phillipsburg, Gary DeLena, "Lead Grease" and tenor, from Sayreville, baritone Steven "Moonman"
Morley, from Pomfret Centre, Conn. On piano was Carlo Altomare from Trenton, on guitar was Steve Trovato from Middletown,
NJ, Stephan Munter from Levittown, PA on sax, Ron Igneri from Sayreville on bass, was replaced by Bob McCaskey, Mike Gallagher
on drums, was later replaced by Geoff Brothers from Middletown, NJ. Bob Wascura was the technical person. The first paid gig for the Bob Shoo Bops was in the summer of 1972 just down the road from Rider College
at Hogan's Restaurant in Lawrenceville, NJ. The word spread throughout the Trenton, NJ area that Doo Wop was back.. In March
1973, they sang for 15,000 people at the Philadelphia Civic Center alongside Dion, backing him up on Runaround
Sue. Also on the billing that night were Little Richard, Ben E. King and the Drifters, Johnny Maestro and the Crests, Jimmy
Beaumont and the Skyliners, Fabian, Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes, Tony Williams and the Platters, Lee Andrews and the Hearts
and over a dozen more original artists from the 1950’s and 1960’s. The Bob Shoo
Bops had several personnel changes over the years. One rising star was Johnny Jackson, a graduate of Hopewell-Pennington
Regional High School in Hopewell, NJ. He was not only a great singer, but an electrifying performer as
well. He was featured in the Motown and Soul Medleys, as well as the climatic last number each evening,
Shout, Part 1 and 2. Who could forget the Medleys and skits the Bob Shoo Bops performed, especially the
"Bob Shoo Beps", where all the singers (except Mark Mulrine) would dress in drag singing Leader Of The Pack, Locomotion
and Be My Baby, just to name a few. Well, over 30 years had passed since forming the Bob Shoo
Bops in 1972 and Rider University (formerly Rider College) was gracious enough to accommodate the Bob Shoo Bops during an
Alumni Reunion Weekend on June 23-25, 2006. We had our only reunion since disbanding in 1980 and it took place right where
it all began in 1972 on the campus of Rider. Update:
The Bob Shoo Bops had another reunion in January 2012 for a surprise birthday party for Steve "Earl Scooter" Scheier
at John and Peters in New Hope, PA. It was fun for eveyone and this time we were graced by the presence of our fearless
leader, Bob Bradbury. If you would like to see and hear us sing a couple of songs, click on the following link to YouTube
